Anselm Feuerbach, Mädchenkopf
This 19th-century portrait was taken by the Nazis from a Jewish furrier in Leipzig, Germany, in the 1930s. Three generations later it was restituted to the heirs of the original owner, who gave it to the LBI. At the Institute, it may be viewed in the context of European cultural history, both before and after World War II.
