Victor Goldschmidt
Victor Goldschmidt founded the Verlagsbuchhandlung Victor Goldschmidt in Basel after his arrival in 1939.
Formerly he was the owner of the Grieben Verlag which had been founded by his grandfather. The publishing house specialized in maps and travel guides. In 1935 he assigned 50 percent of the business to his longtime employee Katharina Feldmann, a non-Jew, to protect the company. But at the end of the year the publishing house was forced to be aryanized. He was able to hold off the request two times but in the end he was forced to sell the company for only 10000 RM.
