Biographical/Historical Information

Heinrich Heine was born in Düsseldorf in 1797 to a Jewish family. He was a German romantic poet, journalist, essayist and critic known for his lyric poetry and his radical political views which forced him into exile in Paris, where he died in 1856.

Ernst Benedikt Kietz was a German painter and lithographer, best known for his pastel portraits.
