    Two printing blocks advertising a wholeseller of etrog, a fruit used during the holiday of Sukkot . Block 2018.14a is brass or copper on wood and has Hebrew text, then "M.W. Kaufmann\ Ergorim-Grosshandlung, Leipzig C1". Block 2018.14b has Hebrew text, then "M.W. Kaufman\ Erogim," with the rest of the text cut out. Both stamps feature images of hands holding etrogs in the lower corners, surrounded by vegetal elements.

Biographical/Historical Information

Etrog is a yellow citron fruit. It is believed that the fruit of the etrog is “the fruit of a goodly tree” (Leviticus 23:40). This fruit is highly prized by observant Jews, specifically fruit that are unblemished, and is used for ceremonial purposes during the week-long holiday of Sukkot. Together with a lulav, hadass and aravah, the etrog is to be taken in each hand.
