    Knife has hallmark on one side of blade.

    A German language inscription on the plate says: Gefertigt aus Grossmutti's Silbergeld. Sie hat es im ersten Kriegsjahr gespart. Erinnerung an die Teure sich hierdurch erhält - Name, Geburts-und Todestag sind hier gepaart. 19 II. 1857 Minna Cohen, geb. Behr, 22. III. 1923. [Made out of grandma's silver coins. She saved them during the first years of World War I. The memory of the dear one will thus remain alive. Minna Cohen, née Behr, born February 19, 1857 - March 22, 1923.]"

  • Summary

    2002.16a: Silver challah plate with Hebrew inscription and floral design, pressed, decorated with repoussé, and engraved. Plate depicts two lions in a field hold the Star of David. Hebrew Inscription is from Shemot (Exodus) 16:25 : "And Moses said, Eat it today, for today is a Sabbath to the Lord; today you will not find it in the field."

    2002.16b: Challah knife has an oblong handle. One side of the handle is molded to look like a strand of wheat or a loaf of challah bread. The other side of the handle depicts a scene of a a sabbath lamp, challah bread loaf, and kiddush cup on a table, and bears the same Hebrew inscription as the plate.
