Biographical/Historical Information

Salomon Heine was the uncle and patron of Heinrich Heine. Born in Hanover, he was a wealthy banker, often compared to the Rothschilds. After the Great Fire of 1842 he helped fund the rebuilding of the city of Hamburg.

Otto Speckter (1807-1871) was a German illustrator and print-maker. He is best known for his illustrations of children's literature.
