Biographical/Historical Information

Philipp Jacob Erlanger was born in 1870 in Frankfurt. He studied at the Stadel Art Institute and the Munich Academy, where he was a student of the animal artist Heinrich von Zügel. He traveled and studied in Switzerland, Italy and France. He then lived and worked in Breslau from 1899-1914, but with the outbreak of World War I he moved his family to Gliesmarode. Erlanger specialized in paintings and sculptures of cows and horses, and exhibited with the Artists' Association of Lower Saxony and at the Städtische Museum Braunschweig. He died in 1934.
