  • Summary

    Light color wood, semi hard, appears to be varnished, a screw is set into the back of the head.

    The head is represented down to the neck which widens to serve as a base. The bone structure is broad and the cheeks are chubby. The rims of a pair of glasses are partly over the eyes, hardening an otherwhise fluid design. The traces of the carving tool have been preserved and energize the surface.

Biographical/Historical Information

Constantin Brunner (pen name of Leopold Wertheimer, 1862-1937) was a philosopher, who emigrated from Germany to the Netherlands in 1933. In 1947 his followers founded the “International Brunner Institute” in The Hague to publish Brunner’s work and to advocate his memory.
