Biographical/Historical Information

The painter and stage designer Anatol Gurewitsch was born in Moscow in 1916. After the Russian revolution, he fled to Berlin, where he studied at the private art school Schule Reimann. In 1934, he emigrated to Palestine and studied under Yitzchak Frenkel, and one year later under Miron Sima in Jerusalem. After World War II, Gurewitsch worked as a painter, and he designed stage decorations and costumes, such as for the Israeli pioneer of expressionistic modern dance, Gertrud Kraus. Anatol Gurewitsch died in 2005.
