    Anna Ruth Hirschmann holds a fur shawl closed over her dress and wears a pearl necklace and gold wedding ring. The background is half red and orange, half blue and green. She sat for an "official" portrait, expressing the security of comfortable wealth.

    This portrait was slashed by storm troopers who entered Mrs. Hirschmann's Nuremberg apartment in 1938. The picture was restored and framed in 1946.

Biographical/Historical Information

Anna Ruth Hirschmann (née Gebel ) was the wife of a Jewish-German banker.

Wilhelm Reuter was a German painter, who specialized in figure painting. He studied in Munich and was mainly active in Düsseldorf.
