Biographical/Historical Information

Abraham Menaḥem Mendel Ussishkin, born in Dubrovno, Russia (Dubrowna, Belarus) in 1863, was one of the leading Zionists of the movement’s first generation. He served as Secretary of the First Zionist Congress in Basel in 1897; emigrated to Palestine in 1919; and became President of the Jewish National Fund in 1923. Abraham Ussishkin died in Jerusalem in 1941.
