Biographical/Historical Information
Carl Eickhorn was a German sword and weaponry manufacturer. They operated out of Solingen, a town in Germany known for the production of silverware. Carl Eickhorn still exists as a company that manufactures knives and other tools.
This sword may have been owned by Henry Regensteiner's father, Dr. Martin Regensteiner, who had served in WWI. Dr. Martin Regensteiner was born in 1893 in Nördlingen, Bavaria, Germany to Heinrich Regensteiner and Milli (nèe Kaufmann) Regensteiner. He studied at Ludwig Maximillian University in Munich, Germany, where he graduated in 1912. He later studied medicine with a focus on ophthalmology at the Medizinische Klinik Greifswald in Germany, where he received his doctorate. He had an ophthamology practice in Duesseldorf. Martin married Rose (Rosalie) Scheier, and they had two children, Heinrich (Henry) and Egon (who died young at age 7). The family escaped Nazi Germany in 1938 and settled in New York City in the Inwood neighborhood. Martin died in New York in 1970.
