Max Malachowski (1878-1930) was the general manager of the Hermann Tietz Department Store in Karlsruhe for over 30 years. He was also active in various Jewish philanthropic institutions and married Johanna Lichtenauer (1884-1976) in 1904. They had a daughter, Margot Malachowski, who was married to Hans Wertheimer. Johanna Malachowski's mother was Frieda Lichtenauer, nee Springer (1859? - 1931).
