Biographical/Historical Information

Gabriel Riesser was born in Hamburg in 1806 into a family of German rabbis. He studied law at the universities of Kiel and Heidelberg and became a champion of Jewish emancipation in Germany. In 1848/49 he served as vice-president for the Frankfurt National Assembly. Gabriel Riesser died in Hamburg in 1863.
