Biographical/Historical Information

The literary historian and editor Arthur Eloesser was born in Berlin in 1870. He excelled in history and Germanic studies, but his attempts to teach in Berlin’s universities failed because of his refusal to convert to Christianity. Eloesser worked in various German theaters and at ‘Vossische Zeitung’, and he authored books primarily on German literature. Arthur Eloesser died in Berlin in 1938.
