Biographical/Historical Information

The violinist Bronisław Huberman was born in Częstochowa, Poland in 1882. He embarked on a very successful musical career early in his life, playing at Musikverein in Vienna, Konzerthaus in Berlin, Scala in Milan, Carnegie Hall in New York, and many other concert halls. In 1936, Huberman founded the Palestine Symphony Orchestra (later, the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra) in Tel Aviv, giving refuge to scores of Jewish musicians and their families in Nazi-occupied Europe. Bronisław Huberman died in Switzerland in 1947, aged 64.
