Biographical/Historical Information
The Austrian journalist and parliamentarian Rabbi Josef Samuel Bloch was born in Dukla, Galicia (Poland) in 1850. Serving as rabbi in various locations in Posen, Bohemia, and in Lower Austria, he fought antisemitism in Austria, founding a periodical, “Österreichische Wochenschrift” and being elected as a deputy for Kolomea in parliament. Dr. Josef Samuel Bloch died in Vienna in 1923.
