Biographical/Historical Information
The philosopher, literary critic and author, Walter Benjamin was born in Berlin in 1892. In his work, he combined and presented in very unique form some of the most important philosophical and intellectual trends of the first half of the 20th century, be that German Idealism; Romanticism; Marxism; and Jewish mysticism. He escaped Nazi-Germany (or its rise) in 1932, going first to Ibiza, then to France, and finally returning to Spain, where he took his own life in 1940.
