Biographical/Historical Information
The German-language poet Paul Celan was born as Paul Antschel in Czernowitz (then Romania) in 1920. When his hometown was occupied by German troops during the war, Celan was interned for forced labor. He then emigrating to France, embarking on his literary career. Paul Celan committed suicide in Paris in 1970.
