Biographical/Historical Information
The biochemist Ernst Boris Chain was born in Berlin in 1906. He studied at the Friedrich Wilhelm University in Berlin, and in 1933 he emigrated to Great Britain, where he was naturalized in 1939. In 1945 he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his research of penicillin. Ernst Boris Chain died in Ireland in 1979.
