Biographical/Historical Information

Lea Mendelssohn Bartholdy née Salomon from Berlin was the wife of the banker Abraham Mendelssohn Bartholdy, and they had four children. Lea excelled as a pianist and took care to provide a profound musical education to all her children: Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel and Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy became widely known as composers; the Salonnière Rebecka Lejeune Dirichlet was a singer; and the banker Paul Mendelssohn Bartholdy played the cello.
