Biographical/Historical Information
Rabbi Jacob Ettlinger was born into a rabbinic family in Karlsruhe in 1789. Although he studied philosophy at the University of Würzburg he remained devoted to orthodoxy, serving as rabbi in Karlsruhe, Mannheim, and Altona, and publishing works on Talmud, Kabbalah and various topics of orthodox interest. Rabbi Jacob Ettlinger died in Altona in 1871.
