Biographical/Historical Information
The teacher and philologist Sigmund Feist was born in Mainz in 1865 and graduated from the University of Strasbourg in 1890. After teaching languages at a school in Bingen am Rhein in the early 1890s, he became headmaster of a private school in Mainz in 1904. In 1906, Feist moved to Berlin, to work as director of the Orphanage in Reichenheim (Reichenheimsches Waisenhaus) until his retirement in 1935. Together with his wife, Toni Feist (née Rawicz) he emigrated to Copenhagen in December 1939. Sigmund Feist died in Copenhagen in 1943.
