Biographical/Historical Information
The poet, author of historical novels, playwright, and screenwriter Bruno Frank was born in Stuttgart in 1887. Bruno Frank began his literary career as a poet: by the time he was in his early thirties, he had published three volumes of lyric poetry and had been compared with Rainer Maria Rilke. Frank and his wife fled Germany immediately following the burning of the Reichstag, landing in England via Austria, Switzerland, and France. Four years later, Frank had moved to Hollywood, CA, working as a screenwriter. Bruno Frank died in Beverly Hills in 1945.
The artist, painter and designer Olaf Gulbransson was born in Oslo, Norway in 1873. His career in Nazi-Germany was mainly built on his caricatures and illustrations. Olaf Gulbransson died in Tegernsee, Germany in 1958.
