Biographical/Historical Information
The librarian Ernst Daniel Goldschmidt was born in Königshütte, Silesia (Chorzow, Poland), where his father was a rabbi, in 1895. From 1926 to 1935, Goldschmidt served as a librarian in the Prussian State Library in Berlin. After emigrating to Palestine in 1936, he joined the staff of the Jewish National and University Library. Throughout his lifetime, he also was a scholar of Jewish liturgy who prepared critical editions of various Jewish liturgical texts. Ernst Daniel Goldschmidt died in Jerusalem in 1972.
