Biographical/Historical Information
The poet and novelist Else Lasker-Schüler - a leading figure in the German avant-garde in the pre-war years - was born in Wuppertal in 1876. She emigrated to Switzerland in 1933 and then settled in Jerusalem, where she died in 1945.
