Biographical/Historical Information

The lawyer and politician Ernst Heilmann was born in Berlin in 1881. In the 1928 German federal election he was elected into the Reichstag as a representative of the SPD, the Social Democratic Party of Germany. Heilmann was arrested by the Nazis shortly after their rise to power in 1933; he was interned in several concentration camps and finally killed in Buchenwald in 1940.
