Biographical/Historical Information

Rabbi, author, and historian Bruno Italiener was born in Burgdorf in 1881. He graduated from Erlangen University and from the Jewish Theological Seminary in Breslau. After serving as rabbi at the Jewish congregation in Darmstadt, he became chief rabbi of the Temple Congregation in Hamburg in 1928, serving until his emigration to England in 1939. He was rabbi at two congregations in London, also concentrating on his scholarly work. Rabbi Bruno Italiener died in London in 1956.
