Biographical/Historical Information
Leopold Jessner, one of the most prominent theater directors and representatives of German expressionism of the Weimar Republic, was born in Königsberg, East Prussia in 1878. He worked at theaters in Hamburg, his native Königsberg, and eventually in Berlin, before emigrating to Tel Aviv and then to Hollywood. Leopold Jessner died in Los Angeles in 1945.
