Biographical/Historical Information

The Austrian born author, poet and journalist Robert Neumann embarked early on his career in Vienna. Due to his social democratic leanings, Neumann left Austria for England, when the Austro-Fascists established their rule in Austria in February 1934. He continued publishing his works in English and organized help for German and Austrian writers who were persecuted by the Nazis. He moved to Locarno, Switzerland in 1958; due to his long fight with cancer, Robert Neumann took his own life in 1975.
