Biographical/Historical Information
Max Nussbaum was born 1908 in Suczawa, Bukovina (Suceava, Romania), and was ordained in 1933 at the Jewish Theological Seminary in Breslau, Germany, where he also earned a Ph.D. He served as a rabbi in Berlin from 1934 until 1940, when he immigrated to the United States and briefed the US government on the situation of Jews in Nazi Germany. In 1942, he was appointed rabbi of Temple Israel in Hollywood, California, where he served as rabbi to many Hollywood stars and remained until his death in 1974.
Rabbi Max Nussbaum was a member of LBI's Board of Directors in 1972.
