Biographical/Historical Information

The photographer Laelia Goehr, née Rivlin, was born in Kiev in 1908. After the Russian Revolution in 1917, she moved with her family via Warsaw to Berlin. Studying piano, she embarked on a musical career in Germany, but after her marriage to Walter Goehr and their emigration to England in the 1930s, she concentrated on photography and became a well-known portraitist.
