Biographical/Historical Information

Born in Frankfurt am Main on December 8, 1891, Leopold Schwarzschild was a journalist, economist, and editor of 'Das Tagebuch', 1923-1933. He emigrated to France in 1933, where he played an active role in emigré politics, editing 'Das Neue Tagebuch', 1933-1939. Schwarzschild emigrated to the United States in 1940 and died in Santa Margherita, Italy, on October 2, 1950.

The photographer Fred Stein was born in Dresden in 1909; he died in New York in 1967.
