A simple residential building served as the official synagogue of the Jewish congregation in Kaiserslautern from 1848 until 1886. The new Synagogue was designed by the architect Ludwig Levy in a Moorish-Byzantian Style and inaugurated in 1886; it was destroyed in 1938.
