Biographical/Historical Information

The Synagogue in Bleicherode, Thuringia was designed by architect Edwin Oppler in a neo-Romanesque style and constructed in 1880-1882. It was burned down in 1938.

Edwin Oppler (1831-1880) was born in lower Silesia and studied architecture with Conrad Wilhelm Hase, excelling in the “School of Hannover Style”, a neo-Romanesque/Gothic architectural style, like synagogues in Hannover, Bleichrode, and others. - Edwin Oppler was the father of two artists: the sculptor Alexander Oppler (1869 –1937), and the painter and printmaker Ernst Oppler (1867–1929).

F. Tellgmann was a photography atelier in Mühlhausen, Thuringia, Germany. It was founded by Ferdinand Tellgmann, who, originally trained as a portrait painter, shifted to the medium of photography starting in the 1840's. His son Franz opened a branch of the firm in Eschwege.
