Biographical/Historical Information

The author and physician Ernst Weiss was born in Brünn (Brno, Moravia) in 1882. He studied medicine in Prague and in Vienna and practiced in Vienna and in Berlin, also serving as a military physician for the Austrian army during WW I. Weiss was well acquainted with Franz Kafka and other authors of the Prague Circle. He started writing himself, and in 1921 he settled in Berlin publishing many novels over the next 12 years. Ernst Weiss escaped Nazi Germany in 1934, settling in Paris, where he committed suicide in 1940.
