Biographical/Historical Information

The American piano virtuoso and composer Leopold Godowsky (1870—1938) was born in Soshly, Lithuania and immigrated to the US in 1890. Known for his advanced piano techniques, he taught in New York City, Chicago, Philadelphia, Vienna (1909—14), and other places.

The Austrian-American composer Arnold Schoenberg was born in Vienna, Austria in 1874; he died in Los Angeles in 1951.
