Biographical/Historical Information
The actor and director Wolfgang Langhoff was born in Berlin in 1901. In the 1920s until 1933, Langhoff worked in various German theaters and was involved with the Communist party. He was arrested in 1933 and interned in the concentration camp Börgermoor, where he wrote the lyrics to the protest song “Moorsoldaten” [Peat Bog Soldiers]. Langhoff was released in 1934 and escaped to Switzerland, where he worked at the Schauspielhaus in Zurich. Wolfgang Langhoff died in East-Berlin in 1966.
