Biographical/Historical Information
The philosopher Emil Utitz was born in Bohemia in 1883. He taught at universities in Halle and Prague and published mainly about aesthetics. In 1942 he was interned in the concentration camp at Theresienstadt, where he was one of the “prominent” inmates, like Rabbi Leo Baeck. After the war, Utitz returned first to Prague, where he published a book about “Psychology of life in Theresienstadt”, and then to Jena. Emil Utitz died in Jena in 1956.
