Biographical/Historical Information
The influential cantor Eduard Birnbaum was born in Krakau (Kraków, Poland) in 1855. After studying synagogal music with Salomon Sulzer in Vienna, Birnbaum sang in Magdeburg and Beuthen, before he was appointed chief cantor in the Jewish community of Königsberg. He published several works on liturgical music. Eduard Birnbaum died in Königsberg (Kaliningrad) in 1920.
