Biographical/Historical Information

The economist and political scientists Theodor Heuss was the first President of the Federal Republic of Germany (West-Germany) from 1949 to 1959.

The sculptor, author and publisher Knud Knudsen was born in Berlin in 1916. During his military service in WW II, he worked on drawings for the German army. In his manifold career after the war, he also worked for German-Jewish cooperation. Among his works depicting the German president Theodor Heuss is also a portrait relief in Frankfurt’s Paulskirche. Knud Knudsen died in Bad Nauheim in 1998.
