The publicist and author Heinrich (Elchanan) York-Steiner was born in Szenice, Hungary (Senica, Slovakia) in 1859 and – self-educated in literature and art - worked in Vienna as an editor. When Theodor Herzl published his “Judenstaat”, Steiner became a fervent Zionist and published many articles in Jewish and Zionist publications. He emigrated to Palestine in 1933, dying one year later.
