Biographical/Historical Information

The lawyer Hendrik George van Dam was born in Berlin in 1906. After returning from his exile in England and his service in the British Army, he became the first Secretary General of the newly founded “Zentralrat der Juden in Deutschland”. Van Dam was a highly acknowledged legal expert in the field of restitution and indemnification. Hendrik George van Dam died in Düsseldorf in 1973.
