Biographical/Historical Information

Rabbi Adolf Kober was born in Beuthen (Bytom, Poland) in 1879, receiving his doctorate at the University of Breslau in 1903 and his rabbinical ordination from the Juedisches Theologisches Seminar, Breslau, in 1907. He served as rabbi in Wiesbaden and in Cologne before emigrating to the United States in 1939. Adolf Kober died in New York City in 1958.

From circa 1953 to 1955, former German rabbis who had found exiles in England or in America met for conferences in Luxembourg and other western European places to determine the future of Judaism in Germany.
