Biographical/Historical Information

The philosopher Max Picard was born in Schopfheim, Baden, in 1888. He studied medicine and practiced in Heidelberg and in Munich before emigrating to Switzerland in 1919 and embarking on a career as a platonic thinker and writer. Picard had been born into a Jewish family in Germany but converted to Roman Catholicism in 1939. Max Picard died in Lugano, Switzerland, in 1965.
