Biographical/Historical Information

The Austrian author and poet Ludwig August Frankl was born in Chrast, Bohemia (Czech Republic) in 1810. Having studied medicine in Vienna and in Padua, he soon devoted himself to literature and poetry and published patriotic works that were well received at the Habsburg court; he was ennobled with the title Ritter von Frankl-Hochwart. Frankl also devoted his time and literary output to Jewish themes and served as secretary for the Jewish community in Vienna. He also participated in the revolution of 1848. Ludwig August Frankl died in Vienna in 1894.
