Biographical/Historical Information

The actress Tilla Durieux was born as Ottilie Godefroy in Vienna in 1880. She started her career in 1902 with an engagement in Olmütz, Moravia (Olomouc, Czech Republic) before starring at main theaters in Berlin. Durieux was married to the artist Eugen Spiro, to the art dealer and editor Paul Cassirer, and finally to the businessman Ludwig Katzenellenbogen, with whom she tried to find refuge from Nazi Germany in Zagreb, Yugoslavia (Croatia). Tilla Durieux died in Berlin in 1971.
