Biographical/Historical Information

The conductor Carl Alwin was born as Alwin Oskar Pinkus in Koenigsberg in 1891. He conducted in several German opera theaters before being called to the Vienna Staatsoper in 1920. He left Austria in 1938 and went to Mexico, where he conducted opera from 1941 until his death in 1945.
