Biographical/Historical Information

Albert Einstein sent his photograph portrait to Melanie (Melania) Serbu in 1936. He wrote onto the photograph: “Für Frl. Serbu” (“for Miss Serbu”) and signed it “A. Einstein”. - In a note, Einstein wrote: “Es ist ein Bild aus der Zeit meiner Vollkraft, während ich jetzt ein weisshaariger Alter bin.” (“This is a picture from my prime, but now I am a white-haired old man.”

Suse Byk was one of the leading photographers for portraits in Berlin in the 1920s.
