Biographical/Historical Information

Kurt Rosenfeld was born in Prussia in 1877. He was a lawyer and politician and co-founder of the Socialist Workers' Party in Germany. Rosenfeld functioned as city councilor in Berlin and also as a member of the German Reichstag until 1932. As a lawyer, Kurt Rosenfeld defended Rosa Luxemburg in Germany as well as social revolutionaries on trial in the USSR in 1922. He immigrated to New York and continued to practice law, advising German refugees on matters of immigration. Kurt Rosenfeld died in New York in 1943.
